vCloud Director PAYG Billing Per Core/vCPU
Within the onApp GUI it is not currently possible to meter vCloud Director PAYG customers on a per core/vCPU basis. This is something that was possible with VMware Chargeback when we used that.
It is actually a useful thing to meter in addition to (or separately from) GHz utilisation from a service provider point of view. Customers often under utilise their CPUs and have a tendency to overprovision the number of CPUs they assign to VMs. Doing this can cause scheduling problems if a cluster is busy.
In our context, because we had been using chargeback our existing customer billing plans are based on per core processing so we will either have to change our existing customer contracts or find another tool to meter the CPU utilisation.
I understand that a resource pool in vCenter is defined with a fixed amount GHz and RAM, and not cores/CPUs, this is something that can be metered by other products and it would be useful to.
