We recently came to find out that the kernel that's running on our hypervisors (KVM - latest OnApp version) does not officially support the CPUs that we use:
kernel: Booting paravirtualized kernel on bare hardware
kernel: Detected CPU family 6 model 63
kernel: UNSUPPORTED HARDWARE DEVICE: Intel CPU model
The CPU's in question are: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2630 v3 @ 2.40GHz
While they are pretty new, they are currently just about the most popular CPU model for any dual-socket server. And OnApp shouldn't be running a kernel which doesn't officially support it. The current OS that OnApp installs for KVM Hypervisors is based on CentOS 6.4, which is outdated. Support says they are using this specific version as it's proven to be more stable than newer versions. While that might be the case, it's simply outdated and may lead to problems with stability.
