I had noticed while testing OnApp's Hot Migrate feature, that it will use the active interface with a gateway on it to contact each relevant hypervisor.
In our case, we have 5 x NIC's per HV. Each has their own specific use:
eth0 (1Gbit) - Hypervisor Management network (IP's are within RFC1918).
eth1 (1Gbit) - Appliance network (Internet traffic for VMs).
eth2 (10Gbit) - iSCSI network.
eth3 (10Gbit) - iSCSI network.
eth4 (10Gbit) - Provisioning/Backup network, misc, etc.
Note: Each NIC is on it's own VLAN (excluding iSCSI network).
Ideally, we would like to preference the traffic from Hot Migrate to traverse over eth4 as it's 10Gbit (naturally, the speed would be a lot quicker too).
I had contacted OnApp support, and they advised that this kind of feature is not available (yet), so here I am.
In terms of competitor products, look at VMware's vMotion and it's flexibility.
