We think it's essential to supply a recovery system which makes it possible to chroot in every available linux system.
Currently we have a problem with a Ubuntu 12.04 VM and need to chroot into that system. This is not possible at the moment because the recovery image kernel is too old:
[root@recovery ~]# chroot /mnt/ /bin/bash
FATAL: kernel too old
When we offer a template to our customers we have to supply them a working recovery system.
But at the moment this is unfortunately not possible.
So I think it's not a good practice to offer such templates without a suitable recovery system.
