    +1!

As NVMe's are now supported for the caching device within IS, it would be great to have NVMe support on the data store nodes too.

  • Full support for NVMe storage devices is planned and we will update you when there is further news.

Has anything happened with this?  NVMe for cache drives was added over 2 years ago.  Did support for NVMe data drives make it into the 6.0 release?  All the new servers support NVMe hotswap drives so having to buy SATA SSDs for IS would be terrible and put us at a disadvantage compared to our competitors.  Can you provide and update please.

    Hi David,

The option to use NVMe drives as storage devices has been added a long time ago. It works for KVM and XEN Cloudboot Compute Resources, we have provided a fix in the latest patch for 6.0 for Cloudboot to fix NVMe as storage devices.

The recommended configuration would be to use SATA SSD drives as storage devices and NVMe devices as cache on Cloudboot KVM Compute Resources.

We have done several benchmarks with NVMe drives as storage devices and we are working to achieve higher performance. In case you have a staging cloud with 6.0 and some spare NVMe drives you could check how it works on your hardware.

Hi Roman, thanks for the update.

If support for NVMe storage drives was added "a long time ago", why does the current Integrated Storage Administration Guide state :

"You can also use NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) only as a caching device. OnApp does not support NVMe as a storage device."

Is this a doco error or isn't the use of NVMe data disks actually a supported configuration?

    David

    Hi David,

I will ask to change this information as it is outdated. Our support engineers reported that Integrated Storage doesn't harness the full performance of some NVMe drives on specific hardware configurations. NVMe performance is on our roadmap and I will update this thread once we achieve outstanding results.
