Virtual Machines migrated from a Solus environment that are running Ubuntu 8 / 9 can't access the console and get stuck on VNC handshake.
Ubuntu 8 / 9 Virtual Machine
The following resolution can be applied prior to migration. If the Virtual Machine has already been migrated then you can just apply the changes and reboot the Virtual Machine.
There are some changes you can make internal to the Virtual Machine to resolve this.
1. The fbcon module is not built into the kernel and is not loaded as a module by default.
To load this module into Ubuntu:
A. Determine if the module file exists.
# find /lib* -name fbcon.ko
You will get output like:
Modules can be installed with the package
if the module file does not exist.
B. Add the following lines into '/etc/initramfs-tools/modules' file:
fbcon xen_fbfront xen_kbdfront joydev
C. Update initramfs:
# update-initramfs -u
You will get output similar to:
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-22-server
2. The GRUB boot loader config file (/boot/grub/menu.lst) 'kernel' string should contain the following option:
So, it should looks like:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-22-server root=/dev/xvda1 ro console=tty0
3. Check that tty1 is managed in
exec /sbin/getty -8 38400 tty1
4. Restart httpd services.
