My Xen based Virtual Machine starts up and then immediately shuts off. What can I do to check the problem?
OnApp Cloud (All Versions)
Occasionally you may see a virtual server that is inaccessible from the VNC console, or that starts up successfully then the power status changes to off without a shut-down task. This can happen due to a number of different reasons, and one of the best ways to find out the cause it to use the hypervisor console.
If the VM is a Linux VM, then you can SSH to the HV that the VM is trying to boot on and manually boot the VM in console mode. This way you can see what error is causing the VM to shut off.
To do this, first get the identifier for the VM from the OnApp UI by going to the VM's page and taking it from the address bar.
SSH to the HV and run:
xm create /onapp/config/<identifier> -c
Make sure to replace <identifier> with the VM's identifier.
You should be able to see the boot log and see any error messages.
