This topic describes two potential points of error - the first is if the failure is during provisioning stage, either the log indicates the template file is missing, possibly the backup server is trying to access the volume group and failing.
The second type of error is during the Build Disk step.
All versions of OnApp after 2.3.1 (with CDN and dedicated backup servers)
Why is trying to build an edge server using local disks keeps failing in provisioning stage when using a dedicated backup server?
For this to work the template needs to be in place on the Hypervisor or available via NFS mounts
The template file name can be found in the error message, or visible by checking the "CDN Appliance" template entry in the UI or the database. The default path is /onapp/templates/
You will also need to update the location of the template in the database for the CDN template.
update templates set backup_server_id=NULL where label='OnApp CDN Appliance';
Why is trying to build Edge Server using local disks failing during Build Disk?
The local disks need to be formatted properly as LVM datastore. See current installation documents for installing LVM datastore if the volume group does not show up properly on the HV.
If the error for Build Disk is indicating the backup server IP, then the datastore has not been set as "local" to the HV that will run the Edge Server. "Shared" needs to be set to "no" as well. See current Administration Guide for details on settings for the datastore.
