OnApp Cloud Edge Server
Multiple disks are currently unsupported in OnApp Cloud edge servers.
To install a bare metal servers, kindly send a support ticket and we will send you the installation script and installation instruction for bare metal servers.
Bare Metal Edge Server
Filesystems should be identified by the bay id that the disk is plugged into. This simplifies administration when disks need to be replaced.
The OS hard disk is not used at all, UNLESS it is the only disk. If one additional disk is added (i.e. a 2-disk server), that additional disk will be the only disk used.
Declare environment variables
export BAY=0 # bay id
export DEVICE=/dev/xxx1 # block device name
Create partition on disk. Consumer SSDs should be left with 20% unpartitioned, to overprovision it for better long-term performance.
fdisk -uc $DEVICE
Create filesystems on all devices
mkfs.ext4 -m 0 $DEVICE -L bay-$BAY
Add this device to /etc/fstab
echo LABEL=bay-$BAY /mnt/nginx/bay-$BAY ext4 barrier=0,noatime 0 0 >> /etc/fstab
Verify that it mounts
mkdir -p /mnt/nginx/bay-$BAY
Repeat for every disk.
Reboot the server.
Verifying The Setup
Confirm that nginx-storage instances are running for all the configured disks:
Replacing A Disk
From the dashboard, pause the edge server and wait for 1 hour.
Shut down the server and replace the disk.
Run the steps described in the Initial Setup section and reboot.
Verify that all nginx-storage instances are up, then unpause the server.
